Healing Card 1: Your Journey

What inspired you to start your healing journey?

My healing journey began when I realised that, after years of feeling withdrawn, shy and out of place due to frequent moves, I was struggling to express myself authentically. I decided to explore Haptotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to better understand who I truly was, what I was feeling and what I needed. The first step was learning how to connect with myself on a deeper level and to find the courage to voice my thoughts and emotions honestly. This process of self-discovery and expression became the foundation of my healing path.

Healing Card 2: Your Philosophy (Why)

What is your personal philosophy on healing?

Healing is a lifelong journey, and I learned this lesson through a powerful conversation with one of my coaches. After years of exploring different therapeutic approaches since I was 22, I told her I felt "done" with therapy. Her response stuck with me: “Why not continue and take on a second therapist? You can take the detour or the high road to emotional freedom—it’s up to you.” That moment reaffirmed for me that healing is not a destination but a continuous path. It’s a journey of growth, learning, and transformation that never truly ends.

Healing Card 3: Your Approach (How)

Which healing modalities do you specialise in?

My healing approach is deeply rooted in the practice of yoga. I am trained in both Yin and Vinyasa yoga, though I believe yoga is personal to each individual. To me, yoga stands for "Your Own Go-to Activity." Each teacher brings their own unique style to the practice, and my students often mention my calm presence, soothing voice and attention to detail as what makes my classes particularly comforting. I believe that true learning and healing can only occur in a safe, supportive environment and this is always my aim when guiding others through their practice.

Healing Card 4: Your Practices (What)

What healing practices are you most passionate about?

I am deeply passionate about creating a space where we can truly connect with what’s happening inside of us. For me, yoga, meditation and breathwork are essential practices that help calm the busy mind, which is often caught up in constant movement and thought. One yoga teacher in South Africa once told me that when I teach, I seem to be in a meditative state, and I’ve found that to be true. It’s during those moments of teaching that something greater than myself seems to take over, guiding me on what to do, what to say, and how to respond to what’s unfolding in the present moment.

Healing Card 5: Ideal Client

Who is your ideal client, or who can benefit most from your services?

As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) myself, I have a deep understanding of the challenges that come with heightened sensitivity to sounds and external stimuli. I don’t see this sensitivity as an intrinsic part of who I am, but rather as something I developed as a response to life’s challenges. Because of this, I’ve become an experienced guide for those who often feel overwhelmed by external impulses, particularly sounds. While I don’t believe in labels, I view conditions like Selective Sound Sensitivity (Misophonia) through the lens of trauma, and my focus is on creating a calming environment that supports the relaxation of the nervous system. In my classes, I offer practical tools that clients can use on their own, helping them to navigate the stresses of daily life while creating a space for ongoing learning and self-care.

Healing Card 6: Client Shifts

What are the most common shifts or changes that clients experience through your work?

One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is witnessing the visible shifts in my students during and after class. It’s incredible to see how their faces soften and calm, the tension melting away, and how often a radiant smile emerges. Even when we share personal memories or experiences that come up during class, there's a clear sense of connection—not just with themselves, but also with the others in the room. In the beginning, we may feel like strangers, but by the end of the class, especially after holding poses in practices like Yin Yoga, there's a shared sense of unity and calm. The poses allow space for personal reflection and connection, both internally and with the group, and that’s what makes the experience so powerful.

Healing Card 7: Nurturing Space

How do you create a supportive and nurturing environment for your clients?

One of the most impactful lessons I’ve learned comes from a teacher in Anusara Yoga (a style I don’t teach, but deeply respect). She began her class with a story about how we often speak to ourselves in ways we would never tolerate from others—harshly and critically. That story left a lasting impression on me, and it’s something I’ve carried into my own classes. I strive to create a space where my students feel safe to experience a range of emotions—tears, laughter, and everything in between. Healing, I believe, happens in moments of honesty and self-compassion, where we dare to accept ourselves as we are. We learn that mistakes are simply "mis-takes," opportunities for growth, and that we can always try again tomorrow with more love and care for ourselves.

Healing Card 8: Your Impact

How do you see your work or location contributing to the wellness community on Mallorca?

From my experience teaching yoga in Amsterdam, Mozambique, South Africa and now in Spain, I’ve learned that it’s easy to fall into the trap of viewing others as competition rather than potential collaborators. In many Western approaches, we tend to focus on our own path with a determined, individualistic mindset, forgetting that healing is a shared journey. In my work, I make it a priority to encourage connection and collaboration within the wellness community. I believe that we don’t need to isolate ourselves on our own “island,” especially on an island like Mallorca. By opening ourselves up to others—learning from different approaches and sharing insights—we can create a supportive network that amplifies healing and brings more peace into the world.

Healing Card 9: Availability

Where can clients or visitors find more information about your services or location?

I tend to reorganize my work frequently—one of my strengths—but my YouTube channel @Yin Yoga with Marianne has remained a consistent resource over the years. On it, I share free, instructional videos to help you understand the purpose behind each pose, ensuring that you practice safely and gain the full benefits. I’d like to invite you to start your healing journey with me through Yoga: Your Go-To Activity—whether through online sessions, 1:1 sessions on Mallorca, or by exploring my YouTube channel. You can join me for classes either at my home or at our location. Simply reach out via yinyogawithmarianne@gmail.com for more details.

Wildcard: Fun Fact

What’s one fun or surprising fact about you that most people don’t know?

A friend once remarked that she had never seen anyone like me who could spend hours just staring at the clouds. I took it as a compliment, because that’s when my creativity truly sparks. I’m like a change champion—constantly full of new ideas that I love to try out. It’s in those daydreaming moments that my mind wanders off on adventures, usually leading me to fresh ideas for new concepts to launch in the (online) world.
